It isn't Monday

Maybe it is the changing of the light, earlier sunrise, birds singing (beautifully) at dawn... but I can't sleep beyond about 6.30am.

I am tired. I need to go for walks and do more in the day – maybe saunter by the river or visit the many parks of this city. Working from home and having a painful knee is making me feel a little bit caged.

I woke up thinking it was Monday. It isn't – it's only Saturday, so I have two bonus days ahead. I'm not sure what to do today. A slow walk with S to our see a friend, maybe? Or maybe we'll go to the cinema, or to see live comedy. Something like that. Something...

  1. I was awake not long after you, M.D., just so you know. Irritating as I'm going to London today and know I'll be wiped out by afternoon. But catching early light is good, whatever.

  2. Well, whatever it is do enjoy it. Thanks for your feedback on my NY post. It's funny to think I was there at all now ...

What are you writing these days, by the way?

  3. This happened to me when summer started here, MD. Just could sleep beyond sunrise and the dawn chorus. I eventually got to switching on the fan and using one of those eye masks they give you in planes to block out the light and sound - 'cos I was turning into a real grouch. I think it's probably normal as one adjusts to the season.

I wanted to ask, are you wearing a brace on your knee? If not, it might help in giving it support while it heals. If it's not mending do get it checked out by an orthopaedic surgeon - seriously, you don't want to muck about with injuries like that - especially if it's not getting better.

    Sending you big hugs.

  4. Signs, how was your trip to London? I hope you found some energy to see you through. It was so cold. That never helps! Early light is always good, especially at the weekend, I think: stolen time.

  5. Greetings, Mr Anthrope. I'm writing all sorts – from journalism to copywriting, I do it all. My favourite type of writing is creative but I just don't have enough time in the day for that, which is a shame. Also, after a day (working) at a computer, it's tough to sit there for another few hours and write...

  6. I think you are right, Vanilla... thinking back, I recall having conversations with a friend about the growing light and shrinking nights as spring approaches. Also, there's a kind of nervous (in a good way) itchy energy that is creeping within me. A sort of 'energy sap' rising?

Thanks for your advice on my knee. I will go to see my GP tomorrow and ask advice. I've heard so much that is conflicting and while GPs are by no means experts on much, I may be able to get a referral to a physio. I'm scared to do much as I couldn't bear to make it worse. My kung fu instructor said that wearing a strap wasn't good as it interferes with the knee's natural healing (this was after I'd been wearing a knee strap for a few days – admittedly, it did feel numb!). Others have said use ice packs, which conflicts with those advising me to use heat, as opposed to freezing the site.

So, you are right my friend – I need some good advice. Fingers crossed the GP isn't going to say "just rest"...
