Earthquake

Last night, there was an earthquake in England – the biggest in 25 years. I'm relieved to hear that no one was badly hurt. Must have been frightening to wake to your home shaking and your cupboard doors blowing open.

I'm amazed to read that some people are saying things like: "This is by far the worst earthquake I've experienced in England."

Just how frequent are they?!

  2. First floods, now earthquakes. What next? England's green and pleasant land is not supposed to do this!
Ah well, some might say it's a sign of the times...

    Be safe, see.

  3. We had a big one here in Cornwall many years ago. Most people thought it was mining explosions which we used to hear/feel a lot.

  4. Sameera, yes, it was lucky no one was hurt. Would have been worse had it happened in the day with masonry falling.

    Take care

  5. Vanilla, true, I wonder what's going on! The flooding over the past few years has been terrible, killing people (I can't get that tragic picture of the man who drowned because his foot got stuck in a drain out of my head).

    Things are definitely changing...

I hope all is well with you my friend.

  6. Hi Minx, so that's where you are! Makes sense – I can visualise you there, writing and doing your thing... Are you very near the coast (she asked jealously)? I have never been to Cornwall, partly as S is Devonian (Dartmoor) and refuses to go beyond the border (well, it's home from home, I guess)...

  7. Hi MD,

Funnily enough, this is the second earthquake I have experienced in the UK. The first was in Cheshire about three years ago. This one woke me up with the bed shaking and cupboards rattling. What was most curious was the fact that not a single car alarm was triggered? Do you have any idea why this would be? I mean, most weekends a hearty gust is enough to make the neighbourhood sound like a rave.

  8. Morning M&G,

How strange that the car alarms weren't affected. There are cars around here that I'm sure are sensitive (and annoying) enough that a cat walking past triggers the alarm.

I guess there is no real reason as to why we shouldn't be affected by earthquakes in this country, but it still seems odd.

    Glad you are OK.

    MD
